The Asian Studies Program at Florida International University (FIU) is currently searching for two new professors, an Assistant Professor in East Asian Studies and Chinese Lecturer/Instructor.
Assistant Professor: East Asian Studies: The Asian Studies Program at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in modern East Asia to have a tenure home in one of the social science departments, including Global and Sociocultural Studies (anthropology, geography, sociology), History, or Politics and International Relations. The start date will be August 17, 2011. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in relevant field or expect to have it in hand by that date. The Asian Studies Program at FIU is housed in the new School of International and Public Affairs and offers B.A. and M.A. degrees, and all of the tenure-home departments offer the PhD. Applicants with a specialized research focus in the region and an interest in cross-cultural or interdisciplinary areas of scholarship are encouraged. Chinese Lecturer/Instructor: The Institute for Asian Studies and the Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University invite applications for a Lecturer/Instructor joint position in Chinese language, culture and literature to begin in August 2011. Duties include teaching all levels of Chinese language as well as literature and culture courses in translation in a growing Chinese program. Applicants should be familiar with communicative proficiency-based methods of foreign-language teaching. Ability to teach courses focused on the broader East Asia is a plus. Requirements: native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and English; minimum degree M.A. (Ph.D. preferred) in Chinese, East Asian Studies, Comparative Literature or related field; and experience teaching Chinese at the college level.
