Minor in Asian Studies

This program is designed with an interdisciplinary approach to Asian Studies. This minor offers a specialized focus on area and comparative studies. It prepares students interested in careers in international business, state or federal government, foreign affairs, education, and more.  Students majoring in another academic discipline who are interested in area studies can earn a minor in Asian Studies by taking 15 credits related to this region.  There is no language requirement but credits from language courses, study abroad, and internship may be applied.

Program Requirements (15 credits)

A grade of "C" or better is required for all courses (C- is not acceptable).

Required Course (3 credits)

Students must choose one course in comparative area studies or global studies.  Students should consult with an advisor about current course offerings and a full list of courses accepted for the minor (see Complete List or Current Courses under Courses).  The following courses represent a partial list of courses accepted to fulfill this requirement:

ECS 3303 Comparative Economic Systems
INR 4283 International Relations of the Developing/3rd World
REL 3308 Studies in World Religions
SYO 4550 Comparative Sociology

Area Studies Courses (12 credits)

Students must choose an additional 4 courses (12 credits) in Asian Area Studies.  A maximum of 2 (6 credits) of language courses may be applied.  Please consult an Asian Studies advisor.
