Fully Online BA in Asian Studies

Online Bachelor’s Degree in Asian Studies

This program is designed with an interdisciplinary approach to Asian Studies with a flexible schedule for working professionals, full-time and part-time students interested in careers in international business, state or federal government, foreign affairs, education, and more. The Asian Studies Online Major focuses on area and comparative studies. Students who are interested in area studies can now earn the 36 credits of upper division coursework for the major entirely online, which emphasizes the role of the Asian region in contemporary world affairs.

Program Requirements

Students must earn a grade of "C" or higher in all courses required for the major. A grade of "C-" or lower is NOT acceptable in any required course. This is a university rule as stated in the Undergraduate Catalog under the College of Arts and Sciences.

Core Requirements (36 credits)

  • ASN 3410 Intro to East Asia (also satisfies Global Learning Requirement) (3 credits)
  • 3 credits in a supervised research course (ASH 4300 East Asian Civilization and Culture or equivalent based on approval of Program Director)
  • 18 credits from the Asian Studies course list (9 credits in Asian Cultural Studies and 9 credits in International Political Economy)
  • 6 credits in the Main Concentration
  • Two semesters of Asian language (e.g. Chinese or Japanese)
  • Students may receive credits through Study Abroad courses or an Internship program
