Asia—home to 4.8 billion people (60% of the world’s population) and contributing over $40 trillion to the global GDP (more than 50% of the global economy)—stands at the forefront of innovation, with China, Japan, and South Korea consistently ranking among the top 15 most innovative nations and dominating key technology exports. Understanding Asia is no longer optional; it is essential for navigating the economic, political, and cultural forces that shape the 21st century.
The Asian Studies Program at Florida International University offers an interdisciplinary, dynamic curriculum that explores Asia’s rich heritage and its pivotal role in today’s world. With a focus on East Asia, students engage in rigorous study of history, politics, culture, and socioeconomics, complemented by language training (Japanese, Chinese, and Korean), philosophy, religion, arts, and literature. This holistic approach cultivates deep regional expertise and cultural fluency, preparing graduates for success in an interconnected world.
